Coordinator notes: This is a Desert Black Swallowtail which resembles Anise Swallowtails which predominate in western San Diego and overlap ranges with this mostly yellow subspecies of the Black Swallowtail Papilio polyxenes rtudkini.
These can be identified by the more ocellate (not rectangular) median band and the rounded not rectangular shaped spots along the forewing margins....Ken Davenport
