Coordinator notes: This is a Desert Black Swallowtail which resembles an Anise Swallowtail which lives in the Colorado Desert. Note the ocellate shaped median band and rounded spots along the upper forewing. These tend to be predominately yellow in San Diego County but black forms can occur in your county. The spotting on the abdomen also tends to be different, a narrower yellow stripe or "polyxenes spots.-Ken Davenport
