Fall Webworm Moth
Hyphantria cunea

Observation date: June 10, 2024
Date notes: . May-June

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: We have been seeing many of these caterpillars on our back patio. Some are tiny, some grown. They seem to have possibly hatched on/near our patio, so we don’t know where—or on what—-the eggs were laid. They don’t seem to know to crawl towards plants or grass, which borders two sides of the patio, which is maybe 12x12. When I place them on greenery, or a tree, they seem fine and just keep crawling. We live in the Katy/Fulshear suburbs of Houston. A friend sent that these are Tent Moth caterpillars, but I’m not finding an identifying picture to confirm this.
