Black-waved Flannel Moth
Megalopyge crispata

Observation date: August 05, 2023
Submitted by: Caramello1603
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Black head with a solid brown body covered in long greenish hairs. The Forrest was very wet from a heavy rainfall the night before. Lots of moss and mushroom growth throughout the area. The caterpillar seemed to prefer to stay curled up. It was found on top of my tent, so it may have fallen from a tree branch. It would only move when touched, but eventually crawled away after being left alone for a while

Coordinator notes: This appears to be a flannel moth caterpillar, but I'm not sure.
