Coordinator notes: This looks like asterius, but it is likely an accidental introduction either as an immature or from a passing ship. I have what also appears to be an Eastern Black Swallowtail taken in Needles in May, 1973. In that area the Desert subspecies rudkini would be what we would expect but it looks like asterius. I still have that specimen, a fairly good female individual. Maybe yours hitched a ride on a car or truck.-Ken Davenport
