Observation notes: On this hot, humid day a little butterfly was seen resting upside down on a porch column beneath the shade of a water oak tree and old Boxwoods with a view to gardenia bushes below and access to muddy spots in the gardens, including roses, white jasmine, Phlox, Verbena and more, along with a small lotus water feature, on our former horse farm where several pastures’ are dedicated to native wildflowers and grasses growing freely for pollinators. Many wild trees grow in a forest along the pond. (The Piedmont of N.C.)
