Observation notes: This Fritillary was feeding (nonstop) on lavender for at least 30 minutes. As it fed, it fluttered its wings, but rarely kept them wide open. Over the past few days, we've seen unusually large numbers of these butterflies in the neighborhood. Weather was hot and sunny.

Coordinator notes: This looks like an Irene Fritillary to my eyes, formerly treated as a hesperis subspecies, now elevated to species status by genomics. But I also an't rule out a very orangish colored zerene.---Ken Davenport
