Northern Checkerspot
Chlosyne palla

Observation date: July 08, 2024
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I am hoping these are all the same species; there were many in this area, some fresh, some very worn, some apparently males, some maybe females.
Status: Resident
Verified by: mikefisher
Verified date: July 26, 2024
Coordinator notes: Correct ID and yes...all are the same...second from top may be a female...in Summit and Grand County they transition between the eastern slope subspecies calydon and flavula on the western slope (some look like either or). And genetics on this one show the eastern distributed populations assigned to species palla are probably distinct so ours would be Chlosyne flavula with C. palla applied only to the West Coast populations.
