Observation notes: Unfortunately this individual stubbornly refused to spread its wings while perched, so I don't have much to got on in deciding whether to go with Gray or Common. I'm leaning toward Common because of the darker eyespots in a dark band on the hindwing dorsal, and what looks like a fairly dark forewing apex. Photos I found of other Grays completely lack those spots, but they do appear in the ID guide you'd sent last year, so... Gray is also possible as the overall coloration looks paler. Tough to tell from this angle alone.
