Boisduval's Blue
Plebejus icarioides

Observation date: July 02, 2024

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I am hoping I found a Fender's Blue. Marys Peak Campground has a lovely, huge mud puddle when it rains. In season the parking lot puddle is a reliable spot for little blue butterflies. The site is open noble fir forest with a rich understory of native and naturalized plants including; lupine, anemones, Thimble Berry, penstemon, paintbrush, lilies, Ocean Spray, and so much more. The pictured butterfly was puddling with 20 to 30 other butterflies. I have been watching for this subspecies. It differs from other Boisduval's Blues because it has black, white-rimmed VHW spots. Different from the Silvery Blue because it has a mostly white VHW cell and dark submarginal marks.
