Small Wood-Nymph
Cercyonis oetus

Observation date: July 26, 2024
Submitted by: Cascade Colors
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: These must have recently emerged; they were definitely the most common/numerous butterfly I saw flying around. Saw at least ten.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Your suggested ID is correct...male or female?...not sure at this angle. Larva of satyrid butterflies (Wood-nymphs, Satyrs, Alpines, etc.) develop very slowly, that is the main reason why they have only one flight/generation per year and most don't begin to fly until summer. Mike
