Coordinator notes: Lynn...you were guessing European Skipper (or Skipperling) some weeks ago and you have finally located a site for it...yes it flies later in mid-summer. This skipper has been expanding its range since its discovery in Routt County, Aug. 3, 1985. The primary host is Timothy Grass but it probably has adapted to other grasses in its expansion. Timothy Grass has an upright, long, firm seed head that is quite distinctive. I would be interested if this grass is present where you made this sighting...which looks like a favor spot to observe for you since you have had several submissions from this particular site.
