Observation notes: My first trip to Palomar Mountain State Park looking for butterflies and I spotted this at a marshy area with tall grasses at Doane Pond. From a distance it was about the same size and coloration of a Cabbage White and I almost ignored it. But coming in close I could see there were complicated patterns on the ventral surface. Not the best shot as it flew off, but there's enough here to solidly identify my first Copper. Weather ranging from calm to gusty, with cumulus clouds occasionally obscuring the sun. About 82 degrees at the top of the mountain.
