Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Fritillaries confound me. This one is different than the others I photographed in other places along Marys Peak road on the same day. It was intent upon nectaring and more or less ignored me. Other species of butterflies present, although no other fritillaries at this place. I am reporting those species in individual sightings. Roadside habitat. Mixed conifer and deciduous forest with grassy, open edges along the road. Granite cliff, small stream and waterfall as well as mossy seeps along the rock wall. Understory of native perennials and shrubs. Bright sun in the morning, shade in late afternoon.
