Observation notes: Though always fairly common here, we've seen many more than usual this summer. They were very plentiful near the beginning of July and we've seen a big uptick in fresh ones again these past few days. They don't seem overly fussy in choosing flowers but seem particularly attracted to Monkshood.

Coordinator notes: They're fairly common migrants from the south every year, but this year has definitely been a banner year for them all over the eastern half North America (possibly all of North America - but I don't keep in the loop with anything really west of the Rockies). We were already seeing large numbers pushing north early this spring. I'm not sure if this was due to a milder winter last year, or just annual fluctuations/variability. We'll see what next year brings! -jmgesell
