Coordinator notes: I downloaded the photo and zoomed in. I found no exact match, though the closest was the Spotted Joker in India which shouldn't be in CR. It is very similar to the Pearl Crescent and Northern Crescent in the states but not reported in Central America. The other closest and similar match is this Chlosyne nycteis which is found in Columbia with similar habitats and butterflies as Costa Rica, so I put it here. But still not an exact match. I'm open to help on this ID. I do believe it is a Checkerspot or Crescent.
