Five-spotted hawkmoth
Manduca quinquemaculata

Observation date: September 05, 2024
Submitted by: L.Hale
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: It appeared to be a giant sphinx month at first glance, fly fast around the front porch lamp. It allowed me to touch a wing to spread them out but then flew around more, even landing on me climbing up my shirt! then back to the porch light. then back on the wall. It was a clear evening we had rain for several days before. I've seen smaller similar patterned months like that but never one that big.
