Coordinator notes: Your suggested ID is correct...a female. Genetics suggests the western populations of hesperis are actually a distinct species-level taxon (S. nausicaa) which have either gray-blue eyes like hesperis elsewhere or brown-eyes like aphrodite...(more southwestward in the distribution the eyes are brown but sometimes brown in locations in western central Colorado). My common name for them collectively is the Southwestern Red-disc Fritillary (hesperis elsewhere north and east collectively...the Western Red-disc Fritillary).
Checklist region(s): United States, Colorado, San Miguel County
