Observation notes: Flight of several butterfly species nectaring in the area, this one from thimble-head flowers (Hymenothrix sp.), which grow along the old SH-80 bank where water is ponded with flows in a small arroyo. This site is accessed from the I-10/Gary (Fraggle Rock) interchange, then north to SH-80 and west, closely paralleling the RR tracks. This site is within the Alkali Flats/Lordsburg Playa/Animas Valley landforms. The afternoon was sunny, hot, and with gusting wind.
