Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Nectaring on Verbena bonariensis. It was basking on the sidewalk when I almost stepped on it. Then it flew to the flowers. First and only one I have seen this year. The site is my suburbanish garden in the parking strip. It was sunny but kind of cool and breezy. When disturbed by myself or a bird flying over it would fly off and then return after a few minutes. I did not realize the dorsal wingtips had so many subtle blues, greens and purples . I always thought the wingtips were black. This is one glorious butterfly.
