Observation notes: Sightings of this species are rare in the western regions of NC. Perhaps this one altered its migration path due to the unprecedented event of Hurricane Helene hitting the area Sept 26-28, 2024, with high amounts of torrential rain and wind gusts of 60-70 mph. I photographed this individual in Mars Hill, NC (Madison County), which is approximately 18 miles north of Asheville, NC.
