Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I am not an expert on butterflies, but I'll give you my uneducated observations. I first noticed these on my elm tree. Then across the street on my neighbors house. Then I noticed they were crawling on MY house too. My baby is so fascinated by them so my husband and I wanted to know what kind of butterfly they will turn into. My two pictures are of two different caterpillars but at the same time of day. They are the same type. A beautiful sunny high-70s day on So Cal. No rain. Warm but not too hot.

Coordinator notes: Thanks for the specific locality and the information about the elm, th larval host of this species, one of the few aterpillars easily identifiable.
