Coordinator notes: This is the Ceanothus silkmoth. Beautiful photograph. One of the main differences between butterflies and moths (at least in temperate zones) is that butterflies will have slender antennae with knobs on the end, while moths will have either slender antennae without knobs or very feathery antennae. This is a nocturnal species, and probably landed there the previous night. Thanks for the record.
