Coordinator notes: This is probably Oeneis calais (ref Scott, Papilio #12, 2006). High altitude populations fly in both even and odd years but especially odd years. Lower altitude populations throughout the Rocky Mountains that fly only during even years (they are biennial) are O. chryxus. Relationships are yet to be fully understood. O. calais was previously treated as a subspecies of O. chryxus. Some accept the separation and others at this point do not. I support the proposed separation.
