Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Taken mid-morning on a slow warming trend in the day.........about 55 to 60 degrees. Very still but living. Feeding or very slight movement on the post. Not timid. Perhaps chilled by the cold night. Only one of this coloration seen on our property in our 10 years of residence in Kettle Falls, Stevens County, WA. Environment is about 1900 foot level at the base of the Cascade Ranges between Tonasket, Washington and Kettle Falls off the Lake Roosevelt Reservoir of the Columbia River. Seen two days later in similar repose on the decking below this post most likely "sun basking". Haven't seen it since. Rather large in size as compared to Monarchs with what seems to be a "heavier body" structure.
We reside about 25 miles to 35 miles south of the Canadian Border of British Columbia, Canada and and 4 miles east of the bridge crossing at Barney's Junction on State Hwy 20, east of the crossing over Lake Roosevelt Reservoir.
