Observation notes: It's on a purple aster plant (macaeranthera) under cottonwood trees within a few yards of a pond. Weather was sunny and temps reached the 90s by later in the afternoon. Possible ID is thanks to colleague Steve Cary of Santa Fe who suggested I post here for more info/confirmation.
