Observation notes: Perched on stem of tomato plant in Los Angeles backyard garden on beautiful, sunny, warm day. Inner wings were checker black and white. No orange. Outer wings color and pattern look like a Queen. Inner wings confuse.

Coordinator notes: Not a Queen which is only a stray into the Los Angeles area. Gulf Fritillaries like city gardens where their host passion vines grow.
