Vicina Clearwing
Oleria vicina

Observation date: August 15, 2012
Submitted by: DorgyMonster
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Overcast and drizzly. Heavy rain later in the day.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Paul Prappas
Verified date: November 03, 2022
Coordinator notes: The additional FW horizontal crossbar and the shape of the HW veining point to the genus: Oleria. There are a few candidates with that crossbar. The FW cap on "thiemei" and "rubescens" run straight across the wing, whereas on this individual the uppermost clear cell cuts into the FW cap, as with the Vicina Clearwing (Oleria vicina). Your second photo does a good job of showing the way the cap is cut away as well as the lone white spot above the cap, which also supports Vicina. This species' range is primarily Costa Rica and Panama.
Checklist region(s): Costa Rica, Guanacaste
