Northern Burdock Borer Moth
Papaipema arctivorens

Observation date: June 10, 2013
Submitted by: toddlertoad
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Caterpillar is on the stem of Arnoglossum plantagineum, formerly Cacalia plantiginea and commonly called Indian Plantain.
Status: Resident

Verified date: January 18, 2022
Coordinator notes: David Wagner referred me to Jim Wiker who is an expert on the genus Papaipema. Jim says, “It's 100% Papaipema, and I want to call it P. baptisiae, which is what I think it might be. However, they normally would have at least a faint dorsal stripe. I've also reared silphii, arctivorens, necopina, cataphracta and nebris from this plant.” I think arctivorens - see BG: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1631814 Jim Rains
