Observation notes: The insect was found around 9:15 p.m. PDT on the infield dirt of a softball field in west Los Angeles (clear skies; cool temperature). It did not move despite the action surrounding it. (i.e. players running, softball grounders going by). I picked it up and carried it to the dugout and, after a few minutes, it rapidly fluttered its wings for a minute before flying onto the strap of a nearby bag. It stayed there for the remainder of the game until I collected it again (this time on a stick) and brought it home to photograph it.
