Observation notes: The plant these caterpillars are on was said to be a potato tree, however when I looked them up to be sure it does not look the same. When it is in bloom its bright yellow. I am always careful watering my garden to be sure there are no caterpillars I would get wet and drown. Usually they are on my Butterfly Milkweed plant but I was surprised to see TONS of these caterpillars on my potato tree. That picture just shows a few of them but they are all over the tree. The only caterpillars I've seen in my garden were green and I believe those are for the Monarch butterflies because that is what is native and most common in this area. I Planted a butterfly garden and of course was so excited to see these caterpillars but then I thought they might just be moths because I have some already in my garden more so than the Monarchs or other butterfly species. I hope you can shed light on this for me.
