Observation notes: This and three or four other similar specimens were feeding in the area of the botanic garden where a butterfly pavilion (tent style) is set up in the early summertime. Minutes after I took this photo, the camera battery died out. I was intrigued to also observe in the northern section of the garden several monarchs and several queens, though not in the numbers commonly visible in midsummer. Rubber Rabbitbrush is still blooming, and I wonder if some of the butterflies will still be active during December and January. I did not see any Morning cloaks this time.
