Observation notes: A small (about half an inch) butterfly was flitting around our lavender plant this morning. When it stopped to rest, it blended almost perfectly in with the lavender leaves. Then when it opened its wings, it seemed to glow with an amazing lavender color near the body -- perfectly matching the lavender blossoms! Unfortunately it wouldn’t open its wings again after I got the camera. It gathered nectar from some lavender flowers, then rested in the leaves. When it wasn’t moving, it was almost impossible to see. One striking feature was two dark spots like eyes on the back wing. It was gone by afternoon.

Coordinator notes: This is one of the most interesting species of blues, very common in your area.
