Polyphemus moth
Antheraea polyphemus

Observation date: July 01, 2014
Submitted by: NancyB
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This moth spent 2 weeks in this location. Now there is a baby moth! You can see the tiny moth to the left side of the mother. Is this possible?
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: The large moth is one of the Giant Silkworm moths. As adults they do not feed, so tend to stay put for long periods of time. The little one is not a baby, but another species of moth altogether. The amazing diversity of moths comes not only in size, but shape, color and habit. Nice find. SG.
