Identification: Forewing warm brown with large silver spots and silver am. and pm. lines. Hindwing white to pale grayish brown in northern specimens, dark brown in south.
Wing Span: 2.5-2.8 cm.
Life History:
Flight: June-early August. As early as March in southern United States.
Caterpillar Hosts: Ferns.
