Subfamily: Erebinae
Identification: Forewing deep brown with deep green shading and black lines. Hindwing banded black and bright pink. Form "carissima" Hulst has yellowish apical patches on forewing.
Wing Span: 7-8.5 cm.
Life History:
Flight: July-October.
Caterpillar Hosts: Poplars and willows, particularly black willow.
Adult Food:
Habitat: Adults hide by day in protected places such as caves or under eaves and bridges.
Range: New Hampshire and southern Ontario to Florida, west to South Dakota and Texas.
