Subfamily: Erebinae
Identification: Forewing white with black lines and shading; diffuse black line usually extends from base to outer margin. This black line is absent in the more uniformly gray forewing of form "atala." Hindwing orangish to pinkish red with black bands.
Wing Span: 6.5-7.5 cm.
Life History:
Flight: July-September.
Caterpillar Hosts: Poplars and willows.
