Identification: Each antenna ringed with black and white scales. Forewing orange, including fringe; lines white, edged with black. Note white reniform spot at costa. Brown basal patch, rounded patch along inner margin near anal angle, and mixed brown and white shade in st. area. Hindwing gray.
Wing Span: 1.1-1.2 cm.
Life History:
Flight: May-early September. As early as March in Texas.
Caterpillar Hosts: Larva has been reared on corn plants; found under bark of elm trees in the wild.

Range: Nova Scotia to South Carolina, west to Kansas and Texas.
