Identification: Forewing dark brown, strongly checkered with squarish gray spots (flagstone patio effect).
Wing Span: 2.2 cm
Life History:
Flight: Adults are nocturnal, fly from spring to early summer.
Caterpillar Hosts: Feed in white fir (Abies concolor) and noble fir (Abies procera) cones, likely other firs.
Adult Food:
Habitat: Coniferous forests in midelevation zones in western mountains.
Range: California north to Washington, east to Utah.
