Subfamily: Sphinginae
Identification: Forewing is dark gray with black and light gray wavy lines. Hindwing is black with a brownish gray border and 2 white bands.
Wing Span: 4 9/16 - 4 15/16 inches (11.5 - 12.5 cm).
Life History: Fully-grown caterpillars pupate and overwinter in underground burrows.
Flight: . Probably one brood from late June to early August.
Caterpillar Hosts: Possibly tomato.
Adult Food: Probably flower nectar.
Habitat: Not reported.
Range: Colorado south through New Mexico and Arizona to Veracruz and Hidalgo, Mexico.
Conservation: Not usually required.
NCGR: G4 - Apparently secure globally, though it might be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.
