Black-and-yellow Lichen Moth
Lycomorpha pholus (Drury, 1773)
Family: Erebidae
Subfamily: Arctiinae
Identification: Body and wings bluish black. Tegulae and bases of forewing and hindwing yellowish orange.
Wing Span: 2.5-3.2 cm.
Life History: A day-flier, often seen on flowers such as goldenrod.
Flight: July-September.
Caterpillar Hosts: Lichens.

Range: Nova Scotia to North Carolina, west to South Dakota and Texas.
