Spragueia apicalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1868)

Subfamily: Acontiinae
Identification: Sexes differ in forewing color. Forewing mostly yellow with brown outer margin and faint tan streak in male; forewing dark gray in female. Basal area brown and apex yellow in both sexes. Hindwing dark gray.
Wing Span: 1.5-1.8 cm.
Life History:
Flight: August-September northward; February-November in Florida.
Caterpillar Hosts: Broom-snakeroot (Gutierrezia sarothrae).

Range: Virginia and Florida, west to Illinois, Missouri and Texas.
